For those of you who missed our first gig at The White Room in Sunderland (shame on you), fear not, as we can announce our second night's line-up for Thursday 28th May.

The fantastic Andy White will be your headliner for the evening.

Mr Al Dawes (the lovely man) will be incharge of MC duties.

Starting slightly later than last month, we'll be kicking things off from 9.00pm with doors opening at 8.00pm.

It'll still be £3 in and the bar stays open til 4.00am!

NEWS..... 'The Laughing Penguin Presents....' Free Festival Show @ Free Fringe, Edinburgh 2009

The Laughing Penguin presents three of its top performers, in this, its debut Edinburgh Free Festival show at this years' Free Fringe.

Founding father Tony Jameson teams up with Sean McLoughlin to dazzle the Edinburgh audiences, with compere and support coming from Barry Twyford and Dominic Farquar aka Viz creator Simon Donald.

The shows are to be performed from 15th Aug - 31st Aug at Mari Hari lounge, Espionage (just off the Royal Mile) @ 2.30pm. The show will last 1 hr.

Please show your support for the lads and help us promote the show by inviting your friends to join the group and show some love.

If any of you are in Edinburgh during Fringe season, please pop along and see us.

We are proud to announce that The Laughing Penguin franchise is expanding to The White Rooms, Sunderland.

Our opening night is scheduled for Thursday 30th April, 2009.

Acts confirmed to perform on the opening night, include Sean McLoughlin, Viz creator Simon Donald, Kai Bosh, Tony Jameson, Danny Deeghan, and Rob Riley, with your compere for the evening being Al Dawes.

Greetings to you all, and may we offer our thanks and appreciation for you stopping by our lovely new blog site.

Within this area, you'll be treated to all kinds of news, reviews and line-ups for our coming shows.

We run every 3rd Wednesday of the month at The Bridge Hotel, Newcastle.

Doors open at 7.30pm, with the evening commencing at 8.00pm. £3 on the door gets you in the venue for some top-class entertainment from some of the regions best established, and up-and-coming comedians on the circuit.

This is not a new material night. This is a night where acts perform their best material for a lovely, receptive, comedy literate audience.

Review Wednesday 18th March, 2009

The second night of the Laughing Penguin got off to a fantastic start with the co-founder of the Laughing Penguin Tony Jameson acting as MC for the evening engaging with the crowd working the whole room making sure everyone was made to feel welcome. His quick wit coupled with an imagination capable of taking an answer to places you never imagined kept both him and the audience on their toes and intrigued. Tony oozes the confidence you would expect from a professional MC who had been in the game a long time and matched this confidence with a solid performance throughout the night engaging in banter with both the acts and the crowd. For only his 5th attempt at Mcing his performance can be seen as nothing less than fantastic.

Carl Hutchinson opened the night with a solid crowd pleasing performance. His material is fantastic especially his recollection of his funny week which is simply outstanding and impressed the whole audience. Carl did a fantastic job opening the night setting the bar very high for the standard of the night. It was obvious why Carl has won so many awards he is destined for great things and we are looking forward to seeing Carl perform back at the Laughing Penguin very soon.

Second on the bill was Andy Fury a relatively new act on the circuit and he pulled out a performance that someone who had been in the industry for years would have been proud of. His performance oozed confidence tackling topics which a new act may have been intimidated to do so with great aplomb. Andy is a good friend of ours and we enjoyed watching him perform to the standard he did it was a joy to watch. The crowd warmed to him instantly with a memorable entrance and rewarding his well constructed material with some of the biggest laughs of the night.

Third on was Mike Dunbar who has only done a handful of gigs but showed an incredible amount of energy on stage. His material is well thought out and shows the high level of intellect Mike clearly has. He now has a solid 10 minutes of material which was well received by the audience and maintained the high standard of acts for the evening.

Next up was Kai Bosh who in his short time on the comedy circuit has built up a fantastic reputation and his performance did not disappoint. Kai carries himself with the confidence of a professional act and backs this up with some cleverly wrote material in particular his material on the credit crunch is superb. His set draws the audience in and holds their attention the whole time he is on the stage taking the audience on a journey of the workings of the mind of Kai Bosh. Kai is definitely one to watch and we are looking forward to having him back at the Laughing Penguin very soon.

Next was Laughing Penguin regular Sean McLoughlin giving another great performance of some of his proven fantastic material and experimenting with his new material which was met with a great response from the audience. A special thank you to Sean for doing the sound and introductions for the MC for the evening which in themselves were an evidence of the improvisational skills that Sean has.

Next up was one of the nicest men on the Circuit Al Dawes whose style makes him instantly likeable on stage. His material is solid and packed with punch lines. His performance was well received by the audience and kept up the high standard of acts on the night and also the risqué comedy topics of the evening. Al is a very talented act as well as a great MC and we are looking forward to seeing him MC our opening night at the white rooms in Sunderland on 30th April.
Our headline act for the evening was John Smith whose performance fitted in perfectly with the style of acts that had supported him on the evening. His material is well constructed with jokes taking twists that nobody would expect keeping the audience on its toes. It was a fantastic end to a great night at the Bridge Hotel.

Next month the Laughing Penguin have two gigs running one on the 15th April at the Bridge Hotel and one on the 30th April at the White Rooms in Sunderland please keep supporting this night.

Opening Night Review Wed 18th Feb

A huge thank you to everyone who made it to the opening night it was a really successful night and we hope to recreate the same kind of night for next month’s show.

The night got off to a great start with the MC Dan Willis interacting with the crowd and making a pair of art teachers, a scouse student, and Tony's dad memorable members of the audience. Dan's quick wit and hilarious ability to banter with the crowd made his time on stage very popular. Dan runs a gig near Stepney Bank called the Grinning Idiot which showcases some of the biggest names on the UK Comedy circuit check it out at http://www.thegrinningidiot.com

First act of the night was James Christopher, who did an amazing job at opening the night. His honest tales into his life and views of the world were well received by the crowd in particular his advice for drinking at the seaside went down a storm. A huge thank you to James for coming down from York and for those of you who frequent Leeds or York James runs three fantastic gigs, including one at the Golden Fleece in York, which is a lovely gig so go check these gigs out too.

Ant Miles was on next. His one liners and clever puns were an instant hit with the audience. For a new act this was an amazing performance which drew a lot of compliments from the crowd. He is going to be great so keep your eyes open for Ant in the future.

Gav Webster performed some new material which won the room over instantly but we would expect nothing less from this man. Laughter from the minute he walked on stage. I am sure he gained a few more fans of his work that night. Gav is doing a one man show at the live theatre at the end of March if you would like to go and see him go to www.live.org.uk for tickets. We really appreciated Gav coming down and hope he will perform for the Laughing Penguin again soon as he was an instant audience favourite.

Sean Mcloughlin performed next, who is one of the rising stars of the UK comedy circuit. His incredible writing skills, coupled with an emotive and honest performance means his set is a winner with any crowd he plays to. A star in the making so again watch out for him achieving great things. Sean will be jointly headlining the Laughing Penguins May 20th show so if you enjoyed his performance come back for half an hour of the best of Mr Mcloughlins’ material.

Next was co-founder of the Laughing Penguin Tony Jameson a rising star on the UK comedy circuit fresh from his travels to Scotland. His clever writing skills coupled with enough stage confidence to win over every room he plays ensures Tony never has a bad gig. His material is well structured and delivered to a very high standard. Tony has to be given a lot of credit for not only jointly running the night but also getting on stage and giving the performance to the standard he did on a busy opening night. This guy really is one to watch his rise since September 2008 has been a joy to witness and I am sure this will only continue.

Our headline act was Mr Steffen Peddie who was an incredible closing act. His clever anecdotes won the crowd over instantly with the room in constant hysterics through his set. His set is a pleasure to watch and the whole of the audience instantly warmed to him. He is one of the nicest guys on the comedy circuit and we want to thank him for helping to make the opening night a great success especially as he had just had a tooth removed, so thank you Stef! Steffen runs a gig over at the Royalty in Sunderland on the first Wednesday of every month which is a lovely gig so try and catch that one.

Lastly we have to thank the audience who made the night what it was we were overwhelmed by the amount of support for the night and hope it continues.

The line up for next month is fantastic so please come back and show your love to the next set of comedians.

Can we just say a massive thankyou to all those who helped make the opening night of The Laughing Penguin a massive success.

The support we recieved has been phenominal, and the feedback from the venue has been very positive. A wonderful night of comedy, Im sure you'll agree, provided by some of the best comics from around the North East.

Our second nights line up is already confirmed, and we feel that it is another night that shouldn't be missed.

We're absolutely delighted to be able to showcase the kind of acts that we have confirmed for the coming months, and we believe that it will only get stronger as the Newcastle comedy circuit begins to really take off.

Once again, a massive thankyou to you all, and we really hope that if you enjoyed the show, please leave a little bit of feedback either for the acts or the hosts, to ensure that we build on the opening nights' success so that we can go from strength to strength.
